Gorey was a child prodigy, drawing pictures as early as 10 months, and he taught himself to read by age three. As an adult, he is best known as an American author, illustrator, playwright, and animal welfare advocate. His home was transformed, in 2002, into a museum dedicated to his creative works and commitment to animal welfare after his passing in 2000.
